Art Class: Small Animal Studies

Due to the outpouring of interest, I'm extremely pleased to announce that we are hosting a follow-up art class this Friday (4/15) of Shauna Finn's painting workshop.

PAINTING WORKSHOP: SMALL ANIMAL STUDIES (Instructor: Shauna Finn)
Date: Friday, 4/15 from 7:00 until 10:00pm
**all levels welcome - 5 people max (since this will be an incredibly intimate class, please RSVP to confirm a spot if you are interested)**
DESCRIPTION: This 3 hour workshop will be dedicated to capturing the animal of your choice in a quick painting. We will work small, using good photo reference; participants are encouraged to bring a photo that they love, whether it's a beloved pet or an exotic reptile: any creature from the animal kingdom will do. Lots of reference material will also be provided for those in need of subject matter or inspiration.

The instructor, Shauna Finn of Finch Arts, will show a few of her oil paintings, as well as some other samples of animal artworks done in a variety of styles and media. While Shauna works predominantly in oils, in this workshop participants are free to work in whatever media they are most comfortable with, or to experiment with the variety of materials provided. An upcoming animal painting workshop series will be introduced, for those interested learning more about the process and technique of oil painting while taking their animal works to the next level. In that workshop, more involved topics such how to give the illusion of feathers or the silkiness of fur, as well as the general likeness of the subject will be covered.

The following materials will be provided and are included in the fee: $35
  - selection of small canvas boards or papers to work on
  - a selection of oil, acrylic, and watercolor paints
  - basic materials such as oil and OMS for oil painting, palette knives, jars/buckets, palette papers, paint brushes, paper towels, rags, carbon transfer paper, tape, sketching paper and drawing supplies etc.

If participants have their own painting materials and prefer to bring the following they can pay a reduced fee: $25
   - something to paint on (prepared/primed canvas, wood panel or paper) no larger than 10" or so
   - your own paints (oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, etc.)
   - please note: if you are oil painting, do not bring turpentine; only odorless mineral spirits (gamsol, turpenoid, etc.) should be used
   - drawing materials are also welcome; pastels, colored pencils, etc.
   - (those paying the reduced fee do not have to bring paper towel, jars, etc., the basics are provided for everyone)

Please RSVP to kanibal (at) kanibalhome.com to attend the above class. All events are located at Kanibal Home (213 Montgomery Street in downtown Jersey City) unless otherwise noted.
