Stephanie often takes on the theme of childhood in her work, but with slightly darker undertones. In her artist statement she states, "Each of us has an inner narrative, one where we are constantly confronting our fear, our loss of innocence and longing to find that Eden that we imagine holds all of our hope and peace. This narrative, instilled in us by the stories we read as children, is real to me and serves to tame a bit of the savagery inherent in life. This is the subject I am fleshing out in my paintings and drawings: the child, the adult and all its humanity."
Her work is full of beauty and her talent is clearly evident, but it's this duality of young and old, dark and light, death and life that really resonates. I urge you to stop by the shop and check out this amazing collection of work. The photography below doesn't do her lively brushstrokes or mastery of color any justice.
(All one-of-a-kind works of art are $90. Stephanie is also available for private commissions.)
