JACKETS & JAZZ Event

Soooo, the store is a disaster and I had to go out to make an emergency hanger run this afternoon, but this Friday (10/2) is a big event at Kanibal Home. Hello, I've only been waiting all summer for fall and now that it's here it's time for some warm, funky and fashionable outerwear. That said, we're throwing a preview party: JACKETS & JAZZ.

Friday from 5:00 to 8:00pm we will be previewing ALL of our winter coats and jackets. Any outerwear purchases will receive a 10% discount (Friday only).

And, if you don't need a coat, come by to enjoy live music from Fire & Ice (a local JC jazz/funk band) and some yummy cupcakes and drinks.

This is just a little something to wet your whistle:

Step by Step

This post may not have anything to do with the amazing 1990's show featuring Suzanne Somers and Patrick Duffy, but it does mark a first for Kanibal Home. We just got in three new shoe styles! And the best part? All three pairs are under $100 (actually, I lied. They are pretty much under $50)!

Meat Products with Faces = Fun

You may remember the Hot Dog High Five tee we had in the shop for kids ... well, we got it in for adults too. However, there are only a limited amount, so if you want one you can 1) call and put a size on hold, 2) come in and snatch one up, or 3) shoot me an email.

That said, we also got a bunch of new tops in the shop. Ch-ch check it out below:

(Adult Hot Dog High Five tee)

(Two for one! This cute grey sweater has a white shirt built in. Perfect for those people who have problems with layering ... or those who just want an easy option.)

(Ok, this is a no brainer. Great color, great fit, perfect for work or a casual night out and super soft. I would wear this under a boring blazer for a bit of pop.)

KH <3's Handmade

If you have stopped by the shop, you know that I'm a big fan of handmade goods, especially those that are locally created in Jersey City. I look at tons of products every day, though, and rarely do I get super excited ... until yesterday.

Sundays are traditionally lazy days in the shop. I brainstorm about the upcoming week, think about what I'm going to make for dinner and generally zone out. So when my customer Jade popped in with a bag of items to show me I just went through the motions until I opened the first box ...

Hello! Are you kidding me?! I know Jade's artwork! She is the illustrator behind mumbot.etsy.com -- a shop that I have been obsessed with for over a year now. And she just started creating these amazing handmade brooches. AND she wants to know if I would be interested in exclusively selling them at Kanibal Home. My response: "How much is the vampire, because I want it for myself?"

So, professionalism out the window (I started jumping up and down), we figured out the arrangements and Jade ran off to work. Now I'm stuck with a dilemma -- do I keep all the brooches for myself or sell them in the shop? Well, it wouldn't be very fair for Jade if I hoarded them, but seriously ... these brooches are killer!

(The details alone are stunning. Vampire girl hand drawn illustration with a red ribbon and little bat charm. Oh yea and it comes in that adorable box too.)

(I know a friend that would go nuts over this as a gift ...)

(Gorgeous. Enough said.)

Ka-Ka Kanibal

Man, can this Saturday get any more beautiful? You can smell Fall coming, but we still have the lingering warm rays of sunshine. I want to stretch out a blanket in Liberty State Park and read a book and have a picnic.

I love Fall. Anyway, I thought I would share some additional photos from the Jersey Journal article. A big thanks to photographer Reena Rose Sibayan for capturing Kanibal Home on film.

Shop Updates, Part II

I wasn't joking when I mentioned that there would be new updates every day this week.

This is what went out today (in addition to a black party dress):

(This model is too cheerful. The thin flannel shirt is much cuter in person -- and it has a slight cowboy detailing that is lost in the image.)

(A little something something for the men too. This two pocket cardigan is available in navy and orange.... and is under $50.)

"It's like Saigon" **

Sometimes you need a loyal customer to say something to keep you on track. So, I quote, "What's up with the CB2 post? I don't care about them. I want to know what's new in the shop. Get back to the point of the blog."

Thank you Allison.

And, on that note, a new item will be added to the shop every day this week so stop by and see what we've got in stock. In the meantime, here's a few favorites:

(Kid "Player" hat)

(New vintage jewelry and silver flower rings from Thailand)

(Jewelry detail)

(The knit dress is nice, but the vintage lamp in the left corner is pretty rad too)

(Oh hello. Would this not be the best dress paired with purple tights?)

(I'm always told the shop feels very "homey", but now with this vintage kitchen set it really is pretty inviting. Come by, sit down and relax. By the way, the whole set is $60 including the two chairs. Yea, you read that right.)

** Note: This blog post title is also dedicated to Allison. On an unrelated note, if anyone knows where she can find denim leggings post a comment here. She's on the hunt.

A Leg Up

Just a heads up that we are quickly selling out of our leggings! Come by and grab them while they're in the shop ...

(Stirrup leggings available in chestnut, black and graphite)

Mad Men Mania

So CB2 just announced the Draper sofa and I'm digging the Mad Men reference, but I have a problem -- I can't help but think a lot of CB2's designs look like Ikea. Now let me say that I own some CB2 items and it may be a case of Ikea copying CB2 rather than the other way around, but .... still.

Deep down I've got an old soul and I'll take a tufted Victorian sofa that smells like moth balls over a new, modular sofa any day but I would hate to pay $800 for a sofa from CB2 and have someone come over and think it was a $300 Ikea piece. I'd rather just jazz up an Ikea sofa with some great throw pillows and call it a day. That's just me though. What do you think? Am I crazy or do a lot of CB2's designs look a lil like Ikea?

Kanibal Home is happy to announce that it is now carrying men's tees from Jersey City-based CPHARRIK. Check out a sampling of designs below and pop by the shop to see them in person (and yes, they do come in Large sizes!).

A Late Night Delivery

What do you get when you combine weeks of patient waiting/planning with 24 hours of complete chaos and a giant truck careening down the Turnpike in the rain? A whole lot of new items at Kanibal Home, that's what.

After a full day of hunting yesterday I pulled up to the shop around midnight and unloaded the goods and then climbed into bed. I tackled some of the inventory/organizing this morning, but still need to unload my other truck. All in all, the trip was well worth the day away from the shop. And I think my mother and Beth enjoyed watching the store while I was gone anyway.

Here's a little taste of what's here:

(Vintage dark wood vanity, vintage pink ice cream parlor chair and a cork board with some great vintage jewelry pieces)

(Vintage china cabinet = new display cabinet)

(Ok, I didn't get this yesterday, but -- with all the rain today -- I was really excited to be able to put out some new zipper leggings that came in)

(Vintage orange rocking chair)

(Very heavy and very ornate, this carved gold mirror is absolutely amazing)
