Hear In Now: Chamber Music at Kanibal Home

I'm thrilled to announce that the extremely talented HEAR IN NOW is playing at Kanibal Home again on Sunday, March 20th at 7:30pm.

HEAR in NOW performs original, jazz-tinged avant-classical music. Residing in three separate locales, the women of HiN bring together elements from their individual regions for a unique sound experience by weaving free improvisation with pieces that have been through-composed by each member of the band. Following is background on the trio:

Mazz Swift has dedicated the past ten years of her career collaborating with and learning from musicians of various cultures. Outside of HiN, her primary focus is a solo project called MazzMuse which combines elements of classical music, folk, jazz and otherwise free improvisational music & electronica. She is a Juilliard-trained violinist (electric and acoustic) who brings her passion for creating true compositions in the spur of the moment to audiences around the world.

Cellist and composer, Tomeka Reid, is a sought after freelance musician in the Chicago metropolitan area who consistently strives to expand her music palette to include other musical styles and performance techniques. Originally from the Washington, DC area, she moved to Chicago to continue her studies at DePaul University and the University of Illinois. Ms. Reid currently performs with Hear in Now, the AACM’s Great Black Music Ensemble, Nicole Mitchell’s Black Earth Ensemble/Strings and Mike Reed’s Loose Assembly. Ms. Reid is also on faculty at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools.
