New Books at Kanibal Home

There's a whole lot of new stuff coming into the shop this week. One exciting shipment that just came in today arrived from Chronicle Books. We have a returning favorite (All my friends are dead.) and some new choices! Ch-ch-check it out:

New: Papilio Glaucus Canadensis Dome

Try saying the title to this blog three times fast ...

The name of this dome might be a mouthful, but what's inside is simply beautiful. Kanibal Home is happy to add another custom creation from Alfred and Alma's Insect Shoppe to the store's collection. And for under $100 this one-of-a-kind piece can come home with you. Fun fact: this butterfly can be found in Jersey City!

New Items in the Shop

With all the new product rolling in the shop recently I've been doing a little rearranging. I've also been pondering a new holiday-related display product. Hmmm.

(Beautiful bug dome)

(Distressed crown hooks)

(Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx + Queens plates)

(Two new side tables in the shop. Identical. Antiqued bronze coloring.)

(Detail of the literal feet of the tables.)

(Bird bottle opener and coasters.)

(Crochet onesie + sock sets.)

Craft Class Roundup: Lace Jewelry

Last Thursday Kanibal Home hosted the delightfully talented Alison Charli Smith in the shop as she taught a two-part craft class on dip dying lace and jewelry-making. Some ladies got right to work, snipping lace and adding baubles, while others took their time - meticulously dying lace to craft at a later time. Whichever approach was used, everyone left with beautiful pieces of jewelry.

Here's a little photo diary of the happenings:

(Cups of cold water dye)

(We take our crafting very serious over at Kanibal Home)

(Being a hot mess is encouraged.)

(I imagine Ali is giving me a stare that says: Stop annoying my students with your banter. Or possibly: Where's my glass of wine?)

(Tools of the trade.)

(Lace that hasn't get felt the cool touch of colorful dye.)

(Embellishments.)

(Okay, at first glance this is just a super cute photo of Ali mugging it up for the camera. But look closer. The camera didn't focus on her ... however it DID focus on the creepy lady portrait in the dressing room. And she is looking DIRECTLY at the camera.)

Party Time!

Skull drink stirrers

Over at Kanibal Home, we love a good party.  And nothing says "fiesta" like a bunch of Day of the Dead skulls. So stock up on all these great (and ghoulish) items we currently have in stock.

Hand painted skull candles

These are my favorite! As you burn the candle, the skull "bleeds" through the eyes.

New Item: Scrabble Mugs

One of our customers summed it up last week with the following comment: "I keep coming back because you guys have tons of monogrammed items." Yea, we're crazy about initials. Maybe a little bit too much. (TMI side note: I have my  initial tattooed on me ... you know, just in case I ever forget what my name starts with.)

So these new Scrabble letter mugs are a fun addition to our ever-growing stock of initialed items. The bottom of the mug even has the letter's value. For example, the G has "triple word score" written on the bottom in pink. Too cute and a perfect gift for that wordsmith friend or family member.

During the day on Saturday: Jersey City Downtown (HSID) and the Jersey City Craft Mafia are hosting a street fair with live music, food trucks and vendor tables.

Also on Saturday: Kanibal Home hosts another kick ass sidewalk sale (the shop's biggest yet) with tons of unearthed treasures - vintage chairs, tables, curiosities, military items, jewelry, etc.

WTF of the Week

Today's WTF of the week is brought to you by the audio nerds over at Stereophile who so thoughtfully sent this along to me. Thanks guys. It's a true online gem (and you know how much I love me some dead animals).

Weekend Wardrobe

This hot little number from Many Belles Down will be out in the shop this afternoon along with a delightfully sexy (and stretchy) black pencil skirt. Perfect for the weekend.

This Saturday: Sidewalk Sale!

We're cleaning up and clearing out in preparation for the cool weather (and all the new items that are arriving in the shop). So pop by on Saturday to check out a dazzling array of curiosities -- from vintage dishware and clothing to side chairs, home decor and jewelry. Sale starts at 11am. See you then!

Craft Class: Cold Water Dye + Lace Jewelry

This Thursday at 7:30pm Kanibal Home will host a new local artist in the shop! Alison Charli Smith will be teaching a two part craft process to participants: 1) how to dye lace using cold water dyes and 2) how to turn that lace into custom jewelry using mixed metal, findings and beads.

The cost of the class is $25 cash, which includes the lesson, refreshments and all materials with 100% of the cost going to the local artist teaching the class. Space is limited, so please RSVP to reserve a spot if interested in attending.

New Jewelry: Hunter NY

We can't keep these divine pieces from Hunter NY stocked in the shop! And in addition to the mini Ava wishbone necklaces and locket pins, we are also now carrying the duo's petite rope rings (available in plated gold, silver and rose gold).

Something Special

What a lovely surprise from one of Kanibal Home's customers! The bouquet looks lovely in one of our vintage mason jars alongside Handsome Harry (the skull).
