Pre-Party Pampering at Kanibal Home on NYE!

Oh New Year's Eve ... ridiculous hype, the rush to get ready and the where-oh-where-will-everyone-congregate-when-the-clock-literally-counts-down havoc. It happens every year and you can't avoid it. But maybe I can be your Virgil*.

OK, you're lost. It's New Year's Eve and you're still at work. Can you make an early escape? Who knows. But the doldrums of the day leach the life from you and when your colleagues aren't buzzing about your ear mercilessly they're emailing you pictures of their dogs in holiday sweaters  ... when all you want is to go home and start getting ready!

FINALLY the day is over and you're heading home to primp for a night on the town.

Stop #1: Kanibal Home for some pre-party pampering. We'll be serving up champagne and snacks with a great big side of style (provided by the lovely Shana Fiorianti in the form of makeovers -- see below). We also have plenty of party dresses (hello, did you see that sequin dress in the window? And if you don't want to be the disco ball at the bar then we also have some sexy silhouettes and low-key sequins as well.).

STOP #2: Home. To do whatever it is you do to get ready for a night out. I don't want to know. But, if you're like me, you'll be hustling because the next stop is the pièce de résistance of the evening. And you're probably running late.

STOP #3: This is the part where most people fret and freak out. Side note: These are all shameless plugs, because ... this is what I'm doing on New Year's Eve. But I thought, Why not publicly share? TMI? Nah, we're a social media culture after all. And for the two people reading this blog ... feel free to come have a drink with me at my table. Because I'll be here:

And that's that. New Year's Eve chaos completely diverted ...........E quindi uscimmo a riveder le stelle.

* OK, who got the reference? ... Anyone, anyone? My super nerd side is showing. But this is what happens when it's a snow day. You guys get a mildly allegorical blog post.

Happy Holidays! XO Kanibal Home

Maybe it's the nip in the air or the smell of cookies and fir trees that drift down my street on the way to work every morning, but I'm feeling pretty damn elated this holiday season.

But if I probe a little deeper, I know it's not the weather (or the copious amounts of comfort food) or even the gifts ... it's Kanibal Home. I'm one lucky lady. Seven days a week I get to come to work and do what I love. I quite possibly have some of the most loyal, lovely people as customers. Actually, erase that last sentence. I definitely have some of the most loyal and lovely friends as customers.

So I'd love to offer up a very heartfelt THANK YOU to all of Kanibal Home's friends. You guys make every day a little sweeter for me and I'm able to do what I do because of you. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

It's been an amazing year and I can promise I have some wonderful surprises up my sleeve for 2011. So continue to tune in and pop by ... you guys provide Kanibal Home with the warmth and creativity that makes the shop stand-out.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy holiday season!

Much love,
Kristen & Kanibal Home

Gift Guide: Teachers

In addition to family and friends, it's that time of year where you have to think about the people who wrangle your children multiple days a week: Yea, teachers. But what to get the person who puts up with your pint-sized person? Here's a few ideas:

(Yup, it's a jingle bell ring. Cute and only $3!)

(100% Shea Butter Soaps ... beautifully packaged. And what teacher wouldn't enjoy a decadent way to wash their hands after a long day of play?)

(Dear diary ... for lesson plans, general notes or journaling, these leather notebooks are perfect for a variety of written tasks.)

(A step up from the standard school cork board. Ribbon and velvet memo board with gold frame.)

(A cute change person for the teaching assistant ...)

Beautiful for the Ball: New Year's Eve Event at KH

Hey kiddies - Just a heads up that this New Year's Eve Kanibal Home is throwing a little pre-party pampering over here at the shop. New Year's Eve falls on a Friday, which means many of us are going to have to hustle from work to home and then out to a party. So we put our heads together over here at Kanibal and thought, "How can we make it a bit easier for our customers?" And we came up with a great idea!

We're teaming up again with the lovely (and local) make-up artist Shana Fiorianti to offer make-up appointments from 4:30pm until 8pm on New Year's Eve. It's this easy: Schedule an appointment, stop by the shop on your way home from work, get all done up and enjoy some champagne and refreshments.

We'll be sending out a reminder as the day gets closer, but if you would like to reserve a time slot in advance don't hesitate to email us at kanibal (at) kanibalhome (dot) com. Here are the itemized details:

WHAT: Makeovers by Shana Fiorianti
WHEN: Friday, December 31 (New Year's Eve)
WHERE: Kanibal Home, 213 Montgomery Street
COST: $20 for a full face makeover / $28 with fake eyelashes
**By appointment, although we will have some walk-in spots available as well**

Gift Guide: Mom

Oh Mom. Possibly one of the most important gifts that need to be given this holiday season ... but also the hardest. What do you give a woman who has everything, or is opinionated about everything or just wants a handmade card from her thirty-five year old son?

So, here's a very inspired gift guide for Mom -- the lady who's easy to love, but tough to buy for:

(Flower brooches)

(Initial mugs ... pair it with Mom's favorite tea or coffee)
(Mommy and Me aprons ... the above are for the mini Mom in the family)

(... and this is Mom's matching apron. Perfect for cooking or crafts.)

Please Vote: Kanibal Home "Best of New Jersey"!

Last year I got a pleasant surprise when you guys came out in droves to support Kanibal Home. The shop won runner-up in several categories for NJ Monthly's "Best Of" poll. But this year I'm getting greedy. I want numero uno. I want another green sticker on the door. Sooooo ....

Once again I'm reaching out to you  -- friends, family, customers, voyeurs -- and asking that you spend a few moments and check out New Jersey Monthly's "Best Of" poll for 2011: http://njmonthly.com/articles/best-of-Jersey/2011-best-of-poll.html

If you love what we're doing over here at Kanibal Home then send some support our way! Also, this is a great opportunity to help out other businesses in your area that you think are really going above and beyond.

XO
