I Was Promised Cake ...

Yum, another tasty creation from La Familia Green arrives at Kanibal Home. La Familia Green says this card is "A birthday cake filled with yummy hand cut origami paper and served up in a delicious origami paper lined envelope. All collaged by hand in the La Familia Green bakeshop."

Because -- let's be serious -- what's a birthday without some cake?

Friday, Bloody Friday

Oh boy, why is it that during a short week Friday seems SO FAR AWAY?!

Anyways, to kick off the weekend I've just put out a new dress, embellished tunic top AND adorable light-weight cardigan. Enjoy!

A Little Boyish

Here it is, kids. What you've all been asking for: A spring weight boyfriend blazer and a super comfy (super affordable) racer-back tank.

You're welcome.

(P.S. We have these pants in stock too. They have zippers up the ankles. Way hot.)

Old School Love AKA Young Love

(Photo courtesy of My Life As Liz ... yea, I went there and I LOVE that show so back off)

OK, I'm going to bring it Old School for a minute ... and not in a good, "OMG, I remember that!" kind of way.

Shoot over a comment if you're with me on this. It's Valentine's Day and you're in high school. Awesome, right? Heeeeells no. All around you the blond cheerleaders are talking in baby voices, wearing pink ribbons in their hair and screeching as they get delivered red carnations and chocolates from secret admirers. If you were like me, then you wore black, put your head down and dodged the dudes delivering carnations like they had subpoenas for you to appear for a paternity test in court.

Thank goodness those days are over. Right? Or maybe not.

Well, if you're like the adult me -- and the sight of this Hallmark holiday still makes you want to throw up (hopefully on someone carrying balloons down the street) -- then pop over to Kanibal Home and pick up something special for that someone special that A) Isn't pink, B) Doesn't have a puppy embroidered on it, and C) Is just plain cool, regardless of any holiday.

OK, awkward flashback over.

I HEART YOU

What, you doubted my devotion?

Pop by and grab one of these chalkboard hearts for your loved ones and scrawl your own message from the <3.

By the way (gentlemen), Valentine's Day is coming up. Something thoughtful from Kanibal Home and a flower arrangement from Antheia across the street would do a lady right. Just sayin'.

Spring Ahead

I don't know about you, but -- as a Northern New Jersey resident -- I was NOT impressed with the snow "storm" last week. That said, I've been hearing whispers about more snow this week. You know what I say about that? Boo!

I'm done with winter. So come by Kanibal and grab a dose of Spring. We've added a whole new rack to the shop with a total of 9 brand spanking new styles.

Here's a quick look:

Get "Bowled" Over

Ch-ch-check it out! New round footed bowls just arrived in the shop. Perfect for serving a trifle on Valentines Day for that special someone or as a hostess gift. The best part is that it comes packaged in a really adorable box. I'm such a sucker for a well packaged product.

New Vendor: Pylones

New Pylones wallets have just arrived in the shop! I'm seriously loving the bright colors and different colored interiors. Available in short and long styles.

Custom Commission: Mumbot

I've featured the lovely work of Jersey City-based artist Jade Kuei in the shop (her wearable art brooches are amazing -- you can see more on her Etsy page), but she's also been working on a special project for me. In addition to what she brings into Kanibal Home, Jade also takes private commissions and several months ago I asked her to do a portrait of my dog Ernie.

Now, I'm usually a closeted crazy animal person, but I had to share the final results because it literally BLEW MY MIND.

(Detail of the painted portrait)

(Full view. Side note: That's my bird, Dale, in Ernie's coat pocket. Dale's been in my life for MANY years and loves Ernie, but a week before I got this portrait Dale passed away unexpectedly. Devastated was an understatement of how I felt -- and still feel -- so I was really shocked and super happy to see that Dale was included in the image. It makes it even more special.)

(Matching wearable art brooches!)

I gave Jade total control. I wanted her to apply her whimsical treatment to Ernie and she totally captured his personality. Seriously. She made him look like Sherlock Holmes. How awesome is that? And she didn't even know my nickname for him is "The Inspector" because of his curiosity and obsessive behavior in checking out every box that comes into the apartment or shop. I'm smitten and LOVE LOVE LOVE my Ernie portrait.

OK, personal post over. But I had to share Jade's incredible artistry.

Raspberry & Cream Bench Seat

Directions for making the perfect, scrumptious seat:

1. Take one part vintage and one mart modern and combine (like savory and sweet)
2. Invest in quality fabric and new cushions
3. Mix together old frame and new upholstery
4. Work that into one another for approximately 5 hours, plus some more
5. You're done!

And this is what you get: the new Raspberry & Cream bench seat at Kanibal Home. Perfect for parties, boudoirs or impressing the neighbors as an entry seat.

(I don't know about you, but this looks like a purple peacock feather to me)
