Oh You're So Crafty ...

Holiday time. In some it evokes a nostalgic yearning for tradition ... in others it brings a cold, frightening fear as visions of packed malls and frantic shoppers flood the mind. I say, screw it. What's better than a handmade gift? Especially if that gift is for yourself.

James French will be taking up the role of craft master again and teaching a series of holiday-themed classes at Kanibal Home starting with a Spooky Lantern class on 10/22 at 7:30pm. It'll be a combination of collage and cut paper displayed on a custom frame.

As with any of our classes, please RSVP at least one week prior to the event.

Look Sharp

There's nothing that gets my granny panties quite in a bunch like a nice ol' blazer or sweater vest with elbow patches. I don't know, maybe I should have been born a man in the mid-1900's because that Mr. Rogers look really gets me going.

So, in honor of my old man fetishes, here's a look at some of the new items over here at Kanibal Home:

Chalk Fest Hits the Mean Streets of J-City

There's nothing that says GANGSTER quite like street chalk. That's why Kanibal Home was happy to participate in the first annual Sidewalk Chalk Fest last weekend. Here's a lil recap:

(Getting down with our bad selves -- the contraband is out in the open and free for the picking)

(Local hoodlums)

(Actually that's just Shauna and James from Finch Arts and Crafts. They have some serious talent.)

(That's right, manly men draw ships getting crushed by a giant octopus in chalk. And everyone knows there's nothing more frightening than a pink octopus.)

(Not to be outdone, Shauna makes a pretty badass blue unicorn.)

Brr, It's Cold Outside

You gotta love New Jersey weather. Just when you start putting away the summer dresses it's time to crank up the heat and wrap yourself in a warm jacket. Personally I love it, because I get to start wearing my obnoxious blazer collection (hello, faux pocket squares). But those of you who err on the side of non-dorky, we have plenty of cold weather coats out now in the shop. Everything from trench coats with removable faux fur to tiered navy button-ups and faux fur vests.

First Annual JC Sidewalk Chalk Fest

In connection with the Jersey City Artists Studio Tour this weekend Kanibal Home will be participating in the First Annual Sidewalk Chalk Fest. Pop by the shop (or any of the other independent, locally-owned businesses) and grab a free box of chalk. Then unleash your inner artist and paint the town any way you like.

Introducing ... Rubella

Sometimes Kanibal Home's window displays are a labor of love. Sometimes they're inspired by a photograph or a color or a feeling or a garment. And sometimes they're a collaborative effort.

This time it was all of the above.

I was lucky enough to partner with the lovely ladies of Rubella Jewelry Co. -- Rita and Samantha -- to pull together the October window and introduce their new line of jewelry in the shop. The full collection will be available this Sunday at Kanibal Home, but you can come take a look at the window and even preview some of their goods at this weekend's Fourth Street Art & Music Festival in Jersey City.

And now for the window unveiling:

(Draped in custom Rubella jewelry, our mannequin is one lucky lady)

Kids Corner: New Onesies and Tees

It might be a bit dreary out, but it's comfortable in the shop. And that's where I'll be posted all day unpacking a recent delivery.

Take a look at these adorable kiddie styles that just arrived:
