Introducing: Lola & Stitch

Kanibal Home is very happy to welcome our newest artist into the shop: the lovely and extremely talented Lola & Stitch. Brenda, the artist behind Lola & Stitch, is a master of all things knit. Not only is she providing our shop with amazing slouchy hats for women and children, but she's also designed some gorgeous plush toys. Pop by and check out these amazing handmade items for yourself, but hurry up ... they just arrived yesterday evening and we've already sold three pieces!

* PS: Modeling by Jersey City's lovely Monica.

Slouchy Sweater: Meet Minnie

Have you met Minnie? It's our slouchy sweater that's something different to everyone. It's a tunic, it's a comfy weekend sweater, it's a dress. Make it your own ... but do it fast. Minnie is flying out of the shop!

When It Rains ... It Pours

Isn't that the truth. When it rains, it pours. With money, happiness and -- especially -- love.

That's the inspiration for Kanibal Home's January/February window. Subtle details that tell a all-too-familiar story.

Here's the process and the thinking behind the window:

(It all started with a cloud. I love using cardboard in Kanibal Home's windows because it reflects my belief on reusing every day materials in interesting ways, but also because I feel it lends a sense of whimsy and playfulness. I cut the clouds from cardboard boxes and then distressed them to give texture and a sense of depth.)

(I knew I wanted raindrops, but then I thought it would be more appropriate to make the newspaper drops into little hearts. Subtle details, people. This is a window about love after all. And Valentine's Day will be here before we know it. Or want it.)

(Stringing hearts. Forever and ever.)

(You mow your lawn, I roll my out. I never thought in a million years that I would be such a frequent shopper at floral supply stores, but those places are a craft diva's dream.)

(Halfway there ...)

(Now here comes the whimsy. Our little mannequin girl is looking all professional, doing her thing, feeling the love and then ... she drops her suitcase in the middle of storm and all her gorgeous items tumble out.)

(She's still looking fabulous, but ... when it rains, it pours. It's all or nothing, kids.)

(The End.)

Burton Rocks My World ... Again.

I'm waiting on a few more pieces to finish assembling Kanibal Home's January/February window. The inspiration for our windows come to me in slivers ... floating in from every angle. There's one constant in all of our windows though: They tell a story. Look out for a window post later today, but -- in the meantime -- I thought I would provide something new to oogle at from one of the greatest storytellers: Tim Burton.

This is getting me so excited for Alice (and might even inspire a summer window):

Renovation Special: Kanibal's Displays

I have a problem I'd like to admit. It's a deep dark secret. Ok, here it is: I'm rarely happy with a room's layout. And I feel the need to change it often.

The shop has been a particular thorn in my side. Another truth: I have NO patience. Sooo it has taken every ounce of will power for me over the last month not to rip apart the shop and start all over. So after Christmas that's just what I did!

(Here's the shop before ... well, the area that I'm about to attack.)

(Another view of the soon-to-be destruction zone.)

(The chosen one. A two piece curio cabinet.)

(The bottom.)

(Did you really think I was going to keep it in its original condition? Oh come on, you know me better. This is the bottom of the cabinet after a coat of primer and two coats of black paint.)

(Pulling all the boxes out of the back. All the contents off all the shelving units and dragging everything around the small shop so I can meticulously rearrange. Exhausting, but so satisfying.)

(And the almost-final product. I say "almost" because there's still a couple pieces left to fix.)

(Cool branch display, huh? That was a last-minute addition. I think it fits Finch very well.)

So what do you guys think? Pretty crazy how big it makes the shop look, right?

And the exciting part is this is only the beginning of many changes to come in 2010. New upholstered furniture will be in the shop by the end of the month. New products. Tons of new clothes.

Happy New Year! And thanks for making '09 so amazing for us over here at Kanibal Home.
